FAQ

Common questions

What actually moves the XAU/USD price?

Gold reacts mainly to real interest rates, the US dollar, and demand for a store of value when confidence in other assets falls. It pays no yield, so higher rates make holding it more expensive. Central bank buying and physical demand also matter. None of these give a reliable short-term direction, which is why sizing matters more than prediction.

Is the reference price of 4275.0 the price I will get?

No. 4275.0 is a reference figure used for examples on this site, and the live price moves continuously during the trading week. Your broker's quote will differ from any published reference because it includes that broker's spread and reflects its own liquidity. Treat the reference number as illustration only.

Why is gold quoted in US dollars when I am trading from the Philippines?

XAU/USD is quoted in dollars per ounce globally, so your profit and loss is calculated in dollars and then converted to pesos by your broker. That conversion is a cost you should account for. It also means the dollar-peso rate moves your peso result even when the gold price itself has not changed.

Is gold trading on the PSE or does it sit outside it?

Gold (XAU/USD) is not listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange. It trades over the counter in the global foreign exchange and metals market through a broker, which is a different structure from buying PSE-listed shares. That means no exchange clearing for your gold position and no Philippine exchange-level investor protection.

How risky is gold compared with what I might expect?

Gold is high risk. It can move hundreds of points in a session, and with leverage a modest adverse move can wipe out more than the margin you posted. One standard lot is 100 oz, so the exposure per lot is large. Size positions so a losing trade is survivable, and never treat leverage as a plan.
